Animationmovie "The Magician" commentary text commentary
Today I will tell you a
story that magic does not exist in the world
The Magician
Tim is a highly skilled old magician
He performs his old-fashioned magic in the major concert halls in Paris
Performing his old-fashioned magic tricks
But the sparse applause of the audience
It was a sign of his current situation.
Soon after, Tim lost his job.
He drifted to London
He wanted to try his luck here.
As luck would have it, there was a show that night.
But in 1959, rock music was taking over the world.
The band was gradually replacing these old acrobatics and magic tricks.
Tim had been backstage preparing over and over again.
Finally, it was his turn.
As a result, there were only two people left on stage.
People who were cheering like crazy
Now they were all going to the band for autographs.
But even so, Tim was still very dedicated
finished the show
But, he couldn't live here anymore
Since he couldn't survive in the big city
So let's try our luck in the countryside
He took a small amount of luggage with him
And the rabbit that often bites
Rode the train for a few days
And then a cruise with the sheep
Finally, he arrived in a remote Scottish mountain village
He found a job in a tavern with food and lodging.
He was responsible for performing magic tricks for the customers at night
His old-fashioned tricks
He got a lot of applause and cheers here
And Mephis, the orphan girl who worked in the tavern
He was a great admirer of his.
He thought he was a magician.
He could make anything he wanted.
For Tim, this admiration was
It was like the sun rising in the winter
It was very warm.
He was eager to protect this "recognition"
So when he got his first paycheck
He bought a pair of small leather shoes
He gave them to Mephis by "magic".
Just after Tim left the village
Mephis also quietly followed him.
Although she didn't have a ticket to the boat.
But she knew that Tim was a magician.
With magic
He could make a ticket for himself.
And so, they arrived in Edinburgh.
They stayed in a small, humble hotel.
It was home to many entertainers.
A dynamic trio of acrobats
A down-on-his-luck ventriloquist with an eye problem
And the skinny clown.
But they've all been abandoned by society.
Tim got a gig at the nearby Royal Concert Hall.
Got a chance to perform
But few people came to see the show
Without applause and cheers
The magician's life is not easy
But the big city was new to Mephis.
There was something new everywhere
She wanted to be like the girls here
Wearing glamorous dresses
With sophisticated high heels
Talking and laughing with her friends on the street
Instead of the rustic look she has now
So she pointed to the dresses in the window
And asked Tim to make it for her by magic
But Tim couldn't do it at all.
The price of this dress
Almost equal to his current savings
But he did not want to let Mephis down
So he still used magic to turn out a white coat
And Mephis believed from the bottom of her heart
What she wanted
Tim would use magic to change for himself
But once there's a first time.
There will be a second time
Expensive Western food.
High-heeled shoes and dresses.
But Mephis didn't know and didn't understand.
Those are all hard-earned by the magician.
Although Tim had explained
He is only a magician
He doesn't know anything about magic.
But because of the language barrier
And the warmth that Mephis brought
So it doesn't matter
To keep up with the expenses.
Tim had to wait for Mephis to fall asleep.
He had to sneak off to a part-time job
Washing cars for people.
He ended up getting fired on the spot.
He even forgot to take the tips given by the customers.
When he got home, Mephis was making gravy.
The ventriloquist next door taught her.
He was going to give up on his dream.
With the little money he had left, he bought the ingredients.
He asked Mephis to share the broth with everyone.
By the time the soup was brought upstairs
The Joker was drunk enough to kill himself.
The man who was once a crowd favorite
Now he was the target of children's beatings
But the broth
Gave him new hope
It's springtime.
Mephis changed into Tim's magically conjured dress
She becomes the fashionable girl she once envied.
And the Joker finally gave up on suicide.
Leaving the hotel
The ventriloquist sells his dolls
living on the street by begging for money
Even the three acrobatic brothers became whitewash workers
It seems that only Tim is left
Still to protect the recognition that Mephis brought
To keep his job as a magician
As a result, the rock band came to the city
Once again dominated the stage
leaving him unemployed again
To make a living.
He had to stand in the window and use magic to sell his wares
And then, Mephis was passing by.
She didn't know what Tim was up to.
But she went to the back door and asked him to do some magic for her.
But the magician had nothing more to offer.
In the end, he could only send her off with a coin at will
Until she finished her work in the middle of the night
Returning to the hotel
Seeing Mephis sleeping in the world
Tim suddenly felt a bit exhausted.
The next day, he turned down all his work.
He went out into the street alone
He met Mephis and a young man
They were shopping hand in hand.
He hurriedly hid behind a coat rack
Looking at the two men
Suddenly, he felt like he had accomplished his mission.
Mephis is Tim's most loyal audience in his life
Bringing warmth and recognition when he was down and out
Giving him a reason to wake up the next day
To keep fighting.
And in return
Tim helped Mephis learn to be independent
To find her own life
This is undoubtedly the most successful performance of the magician's career.
The most successful show of the magician's career.
He released his longtime partner, the rabbit, back into the wild.
He took his bags and planned to leave.
As for where to stop next
I don't know.
He left a letter to Mephis
He told the secret he had been keeping.
"There are no magicians in the world."
Much less magic.
And on the train out of Edinburgh.
Tim had the chance to perform a magic trick for a little girl.
But he didn't do it.
Because instead of giving someone the magic of hope
Instead of giving someone the magic of hope, he let them create their own life.
He took out the picture he'd been keeping in his shirt and looked at it.
Finally, shedding his own tears of frustration
It was the daughter of the famous comedian Jacques Tati.
And this story is from
A letter he wrote to his daughter
Mephis's never-ending need
Wasn't insatiable
She just didn't know anything.
So simple in her heart
That even a goose feather blown by the wind
Can be taken as cold snow
That's why she thought the magician could do anything
Full of unjustified and unconditional trust in Tim
And in return
Tim had owed his daughter a long time of fatherly love
He gave it all to the girl who brought him warmth and recognition
He wanted her to grow up alone.
A man once said to me
Don't just wait for others to help you
Only when you really work hard
What you get is what belongs to you
Although, there is no magic in this world
But, we can become
our own magician
