The Informer is based on the real-life experience of Catherine Polkwark, who served as a peacekeeper at the United Nations a decade ago.

American police officer Casey (Rachel Weisz) is hired by Dyncorp, a private American mercenary company, to go on a peacekeeping mission in Bosnia. She finds her colleagues in collusion with a local human trafficking ring, ignoring the brutal sexual exploitation and abuse that is taking place before her eyes, and even aiding and abetting human trafficking and prostitution. Against all odds, she collected blood evidence and discovered that military officers and diplomats from several countries were involved. Kathy vows to disclose all the evidence, but she is dismissed from her post and becomes a target of the global military and police, but at the moment when her life hangs in the balance, she never gives up on justice.

The beginning of the movie

In the picture, the whole schoolgirl is having a party, and the good girl Raya is requested by her best friend to work in a hotel, which Raya refused, and greeted Raya's mother by the way. Tiptoe Raya back home, was a mother of the count, you have graduated to adulthood, you want to do what you want. When she opened the door and came back out, Raya had already turned around and left.

The next day, Raya and her best friend were at Raya's uncle's house to have their IDs taken, and the uncle was taking pictures and teaching Raya how to cheat the border inspectors when entering and leaving the country. Then in walks Raya's aunt, who stares at her husband in the twinkling sunlight and calls Raya's name softly, wanting to say something but not yet. Finally, she was helplessly invited out by her husband.

The heroine Casey is a rice police officer, recently divorced from her husband, the judge believes that Casey is a workaholic, not suitable to raise their daughter, so the divorce by the ex-husband to take care of their daughter, daughter and ex-husband hope that Casey can move closer to them, Casey said it is very simple, as long as the loan is paid off, apply for a job transfer can be. But applying for a transfer at work can be not so easy, no, Kathy was rejected again.

The supervisor told her a news that did not help her much, can sign up for a peacekeeping mission in Bosnia, 6 months 100,000 knife, tax-free.

The camera pans around and the whole bus Kathy is sitting on is driving on a devastated city road.

A brief background, Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the central part of the former Yugoslavia, between the two republics of Croatia and Serbia. 1945, the peoples of Yugoslavia won the war against fascism, the establishment of the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Herzegovina became a republic of the Yugoslav Federation. The capital city is Sarajevo.

In 1992, Bosnia and Herzegovina held a referendum on independence and declared independence in the face of a Serbian boycott in the country, leading directly to civil war.

On November 21, 1995, the parties signed the Dayton Peace Agreement, which ended the civil war and divided Bosnia and Herzegovina into two political entities, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska. A total of 200,000 people died and over 2 million were displaced in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the civil war. After the war, NATO continued to maintain a peacekeeping force in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was replaced by the European Union at the end of 2004.

The story of this film is about the period of NATO's presence.

Back to the movie, Casey chooses to carry out a peacekeeping mission near his daughter in order to earn money in the shortest possible time.

Casey met Raya at the beginning of the film in the course of the mission, but at this time Raya was covered in wounds and was dying. Follow the trail, the heroine came to a bar, the scene is a mess. The wall full of photos, a floor of cigarette butts, the floor was placed horizontally on the mattress, syringes, dollars, dried blood, used condoms. The sight of everything shocked Casey, who had come from Rice. This was clearly a place where dirty deals were made. Casey then tried his colleagues, who all blinked. Casey remembered a comment made by the head of the shelter that half the men in this country had died after the war, so it was self-evident who these trafficked girls were serving.

Casey went to the Global Displacement Agency for medical help, but the head said it was done according to regulations. With approval from above, they know what to do.

Casey asks Raya to testify so that the bar owner can be punished, but not so that his protector, Casey's colleague, who is a UN peacekeeper and enjoys diplomatic immunity, can be duly punished. Casey, in an effort to protect Raya, requests an armored vehicle from the agency to transport the witness after his court appearance, and it is this move that leads to the witness being exposed.

The group of traffickers beat up Raya furiously in front of all the girls in front of a blurry shot of the girls screaming. In an effort to find Raya, Casey returns to the shelter from fresh to ask for help, and one of the girls tells her that they are controlled by traffickers, that Casey's colleagues brought them in, and that the heads of what Casey thought were elite police and peacekeepers were directly involved in human trafficking and abuse. Stunned, and with the help of her supporting character Peter, Casey decides to continue the investigation and bring the ugliness to light.

Casey once again arrives at the bar looking for victims willing to testify, but under the live threat of Casey's top boss, Ivan, the girls can only admit that they only work at the bar. Casey is vociferous in his persuasion, but no one dares to testify under Ivan's lustful authority.

Kathy's investigation angers the human trafficking ring and is shot in front of everyone. Casey was then told to leave this peacekeeping mission. Casey faces pressure from all sides and completely exposes himself to danger. Casey successfully gets the recording of the head of the peacekeeping structure and the testimony of the victim with the help of his supporting character Peter.

In court, Casey sues the security company for being fired without cause, and the time of sex trafficking in Bosnia is made public. The movie ends up being the same as the reality, and as Kathy says, because of her UN peacekeeping status, she can't let the victims be treated fairly, but only let what happened to them be known to the world.
